Aberlour Futures Hosts Inspiring Childcare Training Workshops

We recently held an engaging childcare training day in Aberdeen building on skills of storytelling, role play, and outdoor numeracy and literacy. The interactive workshops provided early years educators with practical ideas to bring inspiring indoor and outdoor learning to their workplaces.
On September 9th, 13 participants gathered at Robert Gordon’s College for two 90-minute sessions. The sessions aimed to boost confidence and competence in delivering high-quality learning experiences for children. The hands-on workshops allowed those taking part develop new techniques with fellow childcare workers.
The creative storytelling and roleplay workshop focused on expanding skills in engaging children through rhymes, tales, and imaginative play. Participants gained insights on identifying resources to support creative expression and language development.
The numeracy and literacy workshop explored simple ways to inspire children’s understanding of measurement, shapes, patterns, and numbers through outdoor play and observation. Attendees learned how to pose open-ended questions to support skills with reading and numbers.
Feedback highlighted the enjoyable atmosphere and wealth of ideas provided. One participant remarked, “It was good to hear ideas on simple ways of introducing numeracy with open ended questions and observations of the world around us.” Another said, “I loved the storytelling and use of musical instruments. Thank you, brilliant ideas!”
After the two workshops, participants had the opportunity to network with fellow early years professionals and share additional strategies. As one attendee told us, “It was a friendly atmosphere, lots of resources. I loved how interactive it was.”
Aberlour Futures aims to equip early years professionals with the tools needed to facilitate enriching experiences in their workplaces. Sessions feature hands-on practice in implementing engaging activities that promote learning through play.
