Exploring Children’s Rights within Childcare

Course Description

The course will look at new and updated guidance from Scottish Government and reflect on ‘how children’s rights can be promoted, respected and valued’ in all services for children and young people.

Scotland has become the first country to incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into Law. The focus of this course is also to explore the UNCRC, look at the principles and key articles and its incorporation into Scots law.

We will reflect on practice and look at how to inform, advocate and promote these rights to all children and young people who we care for.

Suitable for

For all levels of staff working in Children’s Care and Play Settings, including Early Years, and school aged children as well parents/carers looking for information and guidance on children’s rights.

Learning Outcomes:

  • An understanding of the background to UNCRC and the new Scottish context
  • An understanding of the key principles and articles of UNCRC and how these link to the Health and Social care standards.
  • How to interpret the legal requirements and reflect on practice and ways to meet them best practice guidance documents.
