Older Children Play Too!

Course Description

In this course we will explore the role of staff working with School Aged Children.

We will look at how older children play and the role of the adult in supporting this linking play to the Playwork Principles, Health and Social Care Standards, the UNCRC and relevant documents and strategies.

We will discuss how play supports older children’s development and wellbeing, while also exploring the different Play Spaces and the need for an active approach to supporting school aged children and young people to play.

For all levels of staff working in Out of School Care (School Aged Childcare) Settings, including Childminders and School Holiday Provision.

Learning Outcomes:

  • An understanding of the Playwork Principles and how these relate to the role of the adult working with school-aged children and young people.
  • To understand the benefits of play for older children, including the impact on children and young people’s wellbeing.
  • An understanding of the ways of how older children play and the relationship between children, young people and the adults that support them.
  • Gaining an understanding of the skills and qualities of the adult working with school aged children and young people require to build positive relationships.
